After a death the funeral home usually takes care of the notification to the registry office and the first death certificates; the office gives them to the funeral home, which passes them on. For all further death certificates the city refers to its official certificate service.
- Online via the city's certificate service; the certificate comes by post, also abroad. Payment by Girocard, cash at the cash desk or online with PayPal or Wero.
- In writing by post to the Standesamt München, Ruppertstr. 11, 80466 München, or to the Standesamt München-Pasing, Landsberger Str. 486, 81241 München.
- Do not send documents in advance by e-mail: the registry office only starts once all parts of the medical death certificate are there in the original.
- Costs compared: the registry office charges 12 euros per death certificate. With us the certificate costs 39 euros including this fee. We are not an authority, and the registry office does not work faster for us.

Munich: two registry offices, one only for Pasing
Pasing has its own registry office
Munich has two registry offices. The Standesamt München on Ruppertstraße is generally responsible for deaths in the city. The Standesamt München-Pasing at Landsberger Straße 486 registers deaths from the Klinikum München-Pasing and from care homes in city districts 21, 22 and 23. You order further certificates from the office that registered the death.
More about Munich (2)Show less
Registration starts once all documents are in; the city says it tries to process deaths usually within five working days. Then the registry office informs the bodies under § 60 Personenstandsverordnung, including the residents' registration office, the probate court Munich and the tax office Kaufbeuren. Relatives must inform health insurance, pension insurance and banks themselves.
Each death certificate for private use costs 12 euros; one certificate each for health insurance and pension is free. The death register stays 30 years at the registry office, then the city archive is responsible. For an apostille the registry office refers to the Regierung von Oberbayern, for inheritance questions to the probate court at the Amtsgericht München.
