Munich: pay first, then apply

Pay first, then apply

In Munich the fee comes before the application. You pay the 10 euros in advance, by bank transfer with the cash account number in the payment reference or in cash at the cash desk. The city expressly points out that the advance payment does not replace the application: without form and proof of payment the Stadtkasse issues nothing. As payment methods the city names only bank transfer and cash at the desk on site; card payment is not listed for this certificate.

More about Munich (2)

The certificate confirms that you have met your payment obligations towards the city of Munich and that there are no outstanding claims. It is needed, for example, for the licensing of a business; the city links the taxi licence, the hire car licence, the road haulage permit, the ambulance service licence and the licence for a private clinic.

The certificate is valid for three months. After that you must apply again and pay 10 euros again, so plan the application close to the date the licensing authority wants to see it. The legal basis of the fee is the fee statute (Kostensatzung) of the city of Munich. It concerns municipal claims, not a certificate from the tax office (Finanzamt).

What does the clearance certificate cost in Munich?

The Stadtkasse certificate costs 10 euros. You must pay the fee in advance, by bank transfer with the cash account number in the payment reference or in cash at the cash desk at Landsberger Straße 36. How long is the clearance certificate valid in Munich?

Three months. After that you must apply again and pay the fee once more. If you need the certificate for a licence, do not apply too early. The city states the validity as an important note right at the top of its page on the clearance certificate.

How do I apply for the certificate at the Stadtkasse München?

By post, e-mail or fax with the completed form «Antrag Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung» and the proof of payment. In person only with an appointment made beforehand; then bring your ID card, proof of payment and, if needed, a power of attorney. The city also offers the certificate online. With your power of attorney we file the application for you.

What do I need the clearance certificate of the city of Munich for?

The city names the licensing of a business as an example. On its page it links business registration, the taxi and hire car licences, the road haulage permit, the ambulance service licence and the licence for a private clinic. Which certificate your licensing authority requires exactly is stated in its request.

Is this the same as the certificate from the tax office?

No. The Munich clearance certificate comes from the Stadtkasse and confirms that you have no arrears towards the city of Munich; the city calls it a tax clearance certificate of the Stadtkasse. A certificate on taxes from the Finanzamt is a different document from a different authority. This page covers only the municipal certificate.
