Order the birth certificate yourself at the Standesamt München

The way without us, step by step

The birth register is kept by the registry office at the place of birth. Anyone born in Munich orders from the Standesamt München; the city names two locations, the registry office at Ruppertstraße 11 and the Standesamt München-Pasing at Landsberger Straße 486.

  • Online via the city's form: it must be complete; the registry office takes no orders by phone. Payment is online with PayPal, Wero, Visa or Mastercard, in exceptional cases by invoice.
  • In writing or online the registry office currently expects about two weeks of processing, plus postage. The certificate is also sent abroad.
  • In urgent cases the city recommends coming in person during opening hours; no appointment is needed. An authorised person needs their own ID, the written power of attorney and a copy of your ID.
  • Costs compared: the registry office charges 12 euros per certificate. With us the certificate costs 39 euros including this fee. We are not an authority, and the registry office does not work faster for us.

Munich: every certificate 12 euros, also the second

No discount for the second copy

In Munich every birth certificate costs 12 euros, the German one as well as the multilingual one. Unlike some other cities, the Standesamt München names no reduced price for further copies in the same application; two certificates therefore cost 24 euros in fees. For pension and health insurance the office issues the certificate free of charge and for that purpose only.

More about Munich (2)

Two notes from the city you should know before ordering. If details are imprecise or incomplete, a search fee of up to 100 euros per civil status case may apply. And the fee is due even if the application is rejected or withdrawn; an order can therefore usually not be cancelled.

The birth register stays 110 years at the registry office. Then the Standesamt München hands it over to the city archive, which no longer issues certificates but copies, certified on request. For the apostille on a Munich certificate the Regierung von Oberbayern is responsible.
