New death or already registered?
First the notification, then the certificate
A new death must be notified to the registry office of the place of death by the third working day after the death; Saturdays do not count. If someone dies in a hospital or care home, the institution notifies in writing. In Bonn the documents go in a sealed envelope marked «Eilt – Sterbefall» (urgent – death) into the letterbox of the registry office, or are sent by post.
More about Bonn (2)Show less
After registration, the Standesamt Bonn issues two death certificates for the statutory social insurance free of charge and, on request, sends one in advance by e-mail. Every further certificate costs the fee.
The registry office keeps deaths of the last 30 years. Older ones are at the Stadtarchiv, for the former registry offices Bonn, Bad Godesberg and Vilich/Beuel up to 1989. For the certificate of inheritance, the Amtsgericht Bonn is then responsible if the deceased last lived in its district; there only by appointment.
