Without us: three ways to the Team Urkunden
The way without us, step by step
The Team Urkunden (003.22) in Barmen town hall, Johannes-Rau-Platz 1, 42275 Wuppertal, issues the certificate if the birth took place in Wuppertal. The service portal names these ways:
- In person in the old building of Barmen town hall, room A-23, with ID card or passport and, if available, the family register book. After about 15 minutes you take the certificate with you; payment in cash or by Girocard with PIN.
- Online via the city's service portal. You log in with the BundID and pay by ePayment, e.g. PayPal. If you order from abroad, you can only pay with Visa or Mastercard.
- By phone via the ServiceCenter or in writing. The city then sends a transfer slip; processing and dispatch usually take up to one week.
- Costs compared: the city charges 10 euros, 5 euros for each further identical copy. With us the certificate costs 39 euros including this fee. We are not an authority and order with your power of attorney; it does not get faster than at the registry office itself.

More about Wuppertal (3)Show less
For the service portal you need a BundID. A note from the city concerns orders from abroad: the field «Land» (country) in the address is not taken over from the BundID and must be changed by hand. Payment is then only possible by Visa or Mastercard credit card.
The registry office keeps births of the last 110 years, counted to the day. If the birth was earlier, the city archive is responsible. There you order a register extract online; you learn the exact fee only after the search, together with a payment link. Because of the many genealogy requests, the archive asks you not to enquire about the status.
For an authority abroad the international, multilingual form can be enough. According to the Bezirksregierung Düsseldorf, such CIEC-model certificates are exempt from any formality in the member states, including Turkey, Poland, Italy and Spain. An apostille is then not needed there.
