The way without us, step by step

Hamburg has seven registry offices: Altona, Bergedorf, Eimsbüttel, Hamburg-Mitte, Hamburg-Nord, Harburg and Wandsbek. Responsible is the office for the area where the person was born; if the place of birth is unknown, the Generalregister of the Hamburg registry offices helps in writing.

  • Online via the service «Urkundenanforderung» in Hamburg Service. For this you need a Servicekonto Plus and authenticate with the online ID function.
  • In writing by post, e-mail or fax with an informal letter to the responsible registry office: name, date and place of birth, parents' names, if known registry office and register number, plus an ID copy.
  • In person after checking the opening hours, possibly with an appointment. Payment is usually cashless, and you then mostly get the certificate at once.
  • Costs compared: the registry office charges 19.50 euros per certificate and 8.50 euros for each further one in the same procedure. With us the certificate costs 39 euros including this fee. We are not an authority, and the registry office does not work faster for us.
