What is special in Essen

Three land registry offices in one city

In Essen, the Gemarkung decides which Amtsgericht keeps the land register.

More about Essen (4)

Köln (Cologne) and Düsseldorf each have one land registry for the city, Essen has three: Amtsgericht Essen, Essen-Borbeck and Essen-Steele.

The city of Essen writes that responsibility depends on the district where the property lies. The Essen-Borbeck land registry at Marktstraße 70 keeps 8 Gemarkungen, Essen-Steele at Grendplatz 2 keeps 10, and the Amtsgericht Essen at Zweigertstraße 52 the remaining 24.

The Amtsgericht Essen warns on its page against private online providers charging well over 10 euros; some lacked approval for automated retrieval. That is why we state our price openly: 49 euros, including 10 or 20 euros court fee. We submit a written application to the land registry.

Property boundaries are not in the land register. The city's cadastre office is responsible for those.
