The way without us, step by step

Without us, you go to a different office depending on the certificate. For Essen:

  • School report: write to the office of the school that issued it. We found no city of Essen service for copies of school reports in the service portal (as of 26.10.2026).
  • Non-medical health profession or emergency paramedic with a state exam in Essen: apply for a copy at the Gesundheitsamt, Hindenburgstr. 29, 45127 Essen. Enclose an officially certified copy of your ID card or photo ID.
  • For a new licence certificate, the Gesundheitsamt also requires a certificate of good conduct of type O, sent directly to the office, and a medical certificate no older than 3 months.
  • The Gesundheitsamt asks people not to enquire about the status. If no copy has arrived after 6 weeks, get in touch by email. The 60 euro fee comes as a notice after processing.
  • If the certificate was only just lost, ask the city of Essen's lost property office by phone, fax or email; many items only arrive there after days or weeks.
  • Costs: with us 49.90 euros for assignment, application and follow-up with the school or chamber, plus any fee of the office. You apply for Gesundheitsamt copies yourself with its form.

Unlike Köln (Cologne), Essen has no city page on copies of school reports, similar to Düsseldorf. The application therefore goes to the school itself.

School supervision is split: the Schulamt for the city of Essen covers primary, Haupt- and special needs schools, the Bezirksregierung Düsseldorf covers Realschulen, Gymnasien, comprehensive schools and vocational colleges. This is stated in the city's press release on the report hotline of 9 July 2025.

Special to Essen is the Gesundheitsamt's form for copies in non-medical health professions and for emergency paramedics. It states the fee openly: 60 euros per copy under tariff item 12.1.3.3.
