You can also order the cadastral map from the city of Essen without us. The cadastre office names four ways:

  • Geoshop Essen: find the property by address, Gemarkung or map and download the official cadastral map as a PDF for 15 euros. The city expressly names the Geoshop as the lower-cost route.
  • By email to kataster@amt62.essen.de or by phone on 0201 88-62542. The higher fee applies here: 30 euros for an extract up to DIN A3.
  • In person at Lindenallee 10 after booking an appointment via the service portal.
  • According to the Geoshop, a print by post or for collection costs 30 euros up to DIN A3 and 60 euros above; each further copy 10 euros.
  • The fees follow the NRW cost tariff for official surveying, tariff items 3.1.1 and 3.2.1.
  • Cost comparison: yourself you pay 15 or 30 euros. With us you pay 54.90 euros including the fee for a standard extract and hand over search, order and delivery. If you need an extract larger than DIN A3, we tell you the extra amount before payment.

What is special in Essen

The route decides the price

The city of Essen gives both prices on the same page: 15 euros in the Geoshop, 30 euros for the same extract up to DIN A3 by email, phone or at the counter. Above DIN A3 it is 60 euros.

Köln (Cologne) also charges 15 euros online. In Düsseldorf the Geoshop could not be reached during our research, so we could not check a price there. Essen publishes all levels.

Check the type of map. The property map at a scale of 1:500 or 1:1000 shows the parcels. The official base map at 1:5000 shows buildings, paths and waters, but no individual plots.

According to the city, owner addresses are not a fixed part of the property description and are not regularly updated. The extract is therefore of limited use for an owner's current address.

The Geoshop offers 42 Essen Gemarkungen, from Altendorf to Werden. The publisher is the Amt für Geoinformation, Vermessung und Kataster; the official property map shows parcels with number, buildings with house number and street names.

Do I need a reason to get the cadastral map?

Not for the cadastral map. The city of Essen issues property map extracts without a stated legitimate interest. It is different for the property description with parcel and owner records: a legitimate interest is needed, except for owners, holders of heritable building rights, authorities, notaries and surveying offices.

Do I get the cadastral map from the building authority?

In Essen it is not the building authority but Amt 62, with surveying records, cadastre information and cadastre archive at Lindenallee 10. The city keeps the cadastre in the ALKIS system. The cadastral map is an extract from the property map, also called site plan or cadastre map.

What do I need an official cadastral map for?

According to the city of Essen's Geoshop, a cadastre map is usually requested for building projects or when financing a property. It shows all parcels and buildings by location, shape and size as well as their actual use. The official standard PDF costs 15 euros in the Geoshop.
