Questions about the marriage certificate in Duisburg
How do I apply for a new marriage certificate in Duisburg?
Online via the city's service portal under «Anforderung von Urkunden aus dem Eheregister», or in person at one of the three registry offices. Online, you upload an ID card or passport copy and pay by Visa or PayPal. The marriage must have taken place in Duisburg.
What does the marriage certificate cost in Duisburg?
The first certificate costs 18 euros at the Standesamt Duisburg, each further identical one 9 euros. For some purposes certificates are free; the registry office of the marriage tells you which. With us it costs 39 euros, the 18 euro fee included.
How long does the marriage certificate take?
The City of Duisburg states about 7 to 10 days from proof of payment and asks you not to enquire meanwhile. At the Standesamt Duisburg-Mitte, staff shortages currently mean about 12 weeks. For Nord and West the city states no difference.
Can I get my parents' marriage certificate?
Yes. Marriage certificates go to the spouses and to relatives in the ascending and descending line, so also to children. If the parents married more than 80 years ago, ask the Stadtarchiv Duisburg. Siblings or others need a legal interest or power of attorney.
Lost the marriage certificate: what now?
You order a new one from the registry office of the marriage. It does not certify a copy of the old one, because it must always confirm the current status. If the marriage has since ended in divorce, the new certificate carries a note of dissolution. In Duisburg it costs 18 euros.
Is the marriage certificate available multilingual?
Yes. The Standesamt Duisburg issues them in standard DIN A5 format for the family book, also multilingual; according to the city, the online application also covers international certificates. Since 1 January 2009, academic degrees and titles no longer appear, even if they were recorded at the time.
