City or tax office?

Two certificates with similar names

The City of Duisburg's certificate only concerns taxes owed to the city, not to the tax office.

More about Duisburg (3)

The Amt für Rechnungswesen und Steuern certifies that there are no tax arrears with the City of Duisburg. According to the city it is needed, for example, for licences for restaurants, kiosks or snack bars, for estate agent permits, for pawnbroking and auctioneering businesses and for registering amusement arcades.

The tax office's «Bescheinigung in Steuersachen» is something else: according to the NRW tax administration it shows tax types, tax debts and punctuality of payments and returns, also in English as «Certificate in Tax Matters». The office asking for it tells you which of the two to present.

The tax administration states no period of validity for its certificate; the office you present it to decides. It is only valid as an original and without deletions. If you have only just founded your business and had little contact with the tax office, the certificate contains a note on this.
