Do not confuse: bochum.de also has an application for a «clearance certificate under § 34 para. 2 of the 1st SprengV» at the Ordnungsamt. That certificate concerns handling explosives and has nothing to do with taxes.
According to the City of Bochum, trade tax is levied by the municipality where the business or a branch is located. The City of Bochum's certificate therefore only covers taxes that Bochum itself levies; for branches in other cities, their tax office is the place to go.
Also separate is the tax certificate from the Finanzamt. It contains details on taxes such as income or sales tax and is applied for at the Finanzamt, not at the City of Bochum. The body asking for it tells you which of the two certificates is required.

No. The Ordnungsamt Bochum has an application for a clearance certificate under § 34 para. 2 of the First Ordinance to the Explosives Act. It concerns handling explosives. The tax clearance certificate is issued by the Amt für Finanzsteuerung; this page is only about that one.
I need the certificate from the Finanzamt. Is it the same?
No. The Finanzamt's tax certificate contains details on taxes such as income, sales or wage tax, on tax debts and on punctuality. It is applied for at the Finanzamt. The City of Bochum's certificate comes from the Amt für Finanzsteuerung. The body asking for it tells you which you need.
