The way without us, step by step

Without us you request the copy of your leaving certificate online yourself. This is how it works in the Schulportal Bochum:

  • In the form «Anforderung Abschlusszeugnis» enter first names, surname, date of birth and year of leaving. If your name was different then, there is a separate field for the former name.
  • Choose the school from the list of Bochum schools; if it is missing, enter it in a free text field.
  • To verify, log in with the BundID or upload your ID card or passport.
  • If the certificate is found, the school sends the copy; otherwise you get a message that it cannot be found with the details given. Up to six weeks may pass until delivery.

In Bochum there is a joint online form of the city for a copy of a leaving certificate, the Schulportal. It lists the Bochum schools in a drop-down, from the Gymnasium through comprehensive and Realschulen to the vocational colleges. The request goes from there to the school concerned.

If the school was closed or renamed, the school supervisory authority helps, usually the Schulamt or the Bezirksregierung. The Schulamt for the City of Bochum supervises primary, Haupt- and special schools and is located at Universitätsstraße 43-49.

For requests by third parties the Schulportal Bochum names a power of attorney as a required document, plus proof of identity such as an ID copy. Whether the individual school processes such a request is its own decision. We only request with your signed power of attorney and promise no result.

Do I need a certification for using the certificate abroad?

That depends on the country. For an apostille on school certificates from Bochum, the Bezirksregierung Arnsberg names its own contacts for pre-certification of school certificates. Copies must first be officially certified by the issuing body. The Schulportal also points out that the school issues certified copies too.
